McAfee Update Issues on Windows – Learn how you can resolve it.

When your McAfee security software update gets fails, you see the error message as shown below:
Please check your internet connection, McAfee cannot update your software. If the problem continues, please contact Technical Support.

Follow the below steps if you see this message:

  • For PC only- run McAfee Diagnose & Repair Tool:

McAfee-DR, it is an automated tool that diagnoses and repairs issues. If somehow, it cannot resolve your issue, your support technician can use the data collected to solve the issue.

  • You can update it through an alternative connection:

You can connect your device with ADSL/DSL, Cable, Wireless or Mobile hot spot or any other alternate internet connection.
Then, try to update again and if your update completes, contact your ISP.
To obtain settings automatically configure your network.

  • Perform ping to test your internet connection (open a command prompt)

For Windows 10, 8, 8.1:
  • Press the win and X keys.
  • Open a command prompt.
  • Type ping www.google.com and press enter.

For Windows 7, Vista:
  • Open windows orb and type cmd.exe in the search box.
  • Then, right-click command in the results windows, select Run as Administrator.
  • Same as above type ping www.google.com and press enter.

  • Make sure you renew your IP address:
To renew your IP address follow the steps:



  • Right-click the Network and Sharing or you can click on the Wi-Fi icon.
  • Select Diagnose and Repair.
  • Must allow the network troubleshooter to complete.
  • Then, click close.

  •  You have to Reinstall McAfee

Sometimes, it is possible that your McAfee installation is corrupt so, reinstall your McAfee software.
